Cutters posts Stanley Cup promo for NHL

NEW YORK CITY — Cutters, the editorial division of Cutters Studios (www.cuttersstudios.com), has created a new promo for the National Hockey League. Spelling features more than 20 NHL legends, each of whom spells out the letters of their name, as engraved on the league’s Stanley Cup. Bobby Orr, Brett and Bobby Hull, Wayne Gretzky, and Mark Messier are just a few of the greats featured in the piece, which reinforces the pride players have in being a part of what might be considered the most revered trophy in professional sports.

“This is the first time this many hockey superstars have ever been brought together for a shoot,” notes editor Steve Bell of Cutters Studios New York. “That made this whole project pretty special for all of us, and it felt like even the players were enjoying it.”

Spelling was directed by Samuel Bayer of Superprime Films and conceived by creative shop Baby Bear's Porridge.
In addition to directing, Bayer also served as director of photography, shooting on Arri’s Alexa XT camera and capturing sound to a Nagra recorder.

Cutters Studios handled editorial, audio and finishing for the promo. Bell was assisted on the edit by Roz Domingo. The piece was cut inside Avid Media Composer 8.5.3. Moises Tavera served as Flame artist and TJ Dumser handled the mix using Avid’s Pro Tools HD 12.4.0. Lez Rudge at Twelve performed color correction. The piece incorporates stock from NHL Archives and music from Future Perfect.
