Splice hires Patricio Fernandez, grows VFX team

MINNEAPOLIS — Creative studio Splice (www.splice.tv) has expanded its visual effects department with the recent addition of VFX artist Patricio Fernandez. Fernandez brings an international resume and credits that include work on feature films such as Wrath of the Titans, Terminator: Salvation, Iron Man 3, and  Captain America: The First Avenger.

As a filmmaker and visual effects artist, Fernandez began his career at an early age. He broke into the broadcast industry as host and producer in the mid-1990s, incorporating computer animation and visual effects at a time when this was still uncommon in the medium. After graduating with a film degree, he served as a creative and producer for commercial campaigns, as an assistant editor for a feature film, and as an editor for a post house — all in Argentina.

He moved to the US in late 2000, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Computer Animation at the Miami International University of Art and Design. Since then, he founded Illusion Factory, in Florida, a post production company that provided services to Discovery Channel. He has also been an instructor in animation, cinematography and VFX, as well as a program developer for EDMC Schools.

“Adding Patricio has immediately bolstered our visual effects department,” says Splice producer Drew Sondeland. “He has the know-how and experience to be plugged in early, providing our clients with valuable pre-pro insight. His vast capabilities have already opened up a lot of new exciting opportunities for Splice.”
