NAB 2014: Rohde & Schwarz DVS debuts scalable storage solution

LAS VEGAS — At this year’s NAB show, Rohde & Schwarz DVS (www.dvs.de) is introducing SpycerBox Cell, its new, scalable storage solution that measures 1U high and features 30 SSD, SAS or SATA hard drives mounted on a tray-based carrier system, which can be hot-swapped during operation. With its redundant architecture, SpycerBox Cell delivers data rates for all uncompressed and compressed formats in SD, HD, 2K, 4K, 8K, and beyond. Additionally, the drives can be maintained and hot-swapped during live operation.

SpycerBox Cell is a SAN for uncompressed and compressed post production and broadcast formats — for SD, HD, 2K, 4K or 8K. According to the company, a single SpycerBox Cell offers a guaranteed data throughput of over 3 GB/s and a capacity of up to 36TBs with SAS, which is scalable using multiple SpycerBox Cell systems.

Rohde & Schwarz DVS designed the SpycerBox Cell to be modular and redundant so the storage solution can be expanded easily when requirements become more demanding. The integrated SAN Remo Web-based user interface offers configuration of the hardware and software components. It also lets users monitor the system status, bandwidth levels, and the system's performance.
