NAB 2014: Atto adds Thunderbolt 2 to ThunderLink Desklink devices

LAS VEGAS — Atto Technology (www.attotech.com), a storage, network connectivity and infrastructure solutions company for data-intensive computing environments, has introduced the newest extension of the Desklink family featuring Thunderbolt 2. With transfer speeds of 20Gbps, Atto Thunderbolt 2 ThunderLink Desklink devices are intended to deliver accelerated access to external storage and networks for I/O-demanding applications.

“We are excited to announce the first portable adapter that provides Thunderbolt 2 connectivity to 16Gb/s Fibre Channel storage and SANs,” says Wayne Arvidson, VP of marketing at Atto Technology. “We’ve been pleased to work with Intel through the development of Thunderbolt 2 and look forward to offering customers the industry’s first in what will be a comprehensive line of Thunderbolt 2 technology-enabled products.”

According to Atto, its ThunderLink Desklink device enables reliable access to data intensive applications such as 2K, 4K and 3D stereoscopic film, multiple layers of complex, uncompressed realtime effects, and high-definition video and audio editing. Atto’s Thunderbolt 2 ThunderLink series includes the ThunderLink FC 2162 Thunderbolt 2 to 16Gb Fibre Channel Desklink device, the ThunderLink NS 2102 Thunderbolt 2 to 10GbE (SFP+ LC optical) Desklink device, and the ThunderLink NT 2102 Thunderbolt 2 to 10GBASE-T (RJ45 copper) Desklink Device.

Atto Desklink devices are designed to enable today’s small form factor platforms to connect into high-performance storage and networks, including SAS, SATA, Fibre Channel or Ethernet infrastructures, and to allow access to enterprise-level data center networks. To ensure cross-compatibility, Atto Thunderbolt 2 products have multiple operating system, port and driver options.
