Composer Brian Tyler scores 'Into the Storm'

LOS ANGELES — Varèse Sarabande Records (www.varesesarabande.com) will release “Into the Storm – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack,” on August 5th. The film opens on August 8th and the new soundtrack features an original score composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast Five).

Into the Storm was directed by Steven Quale ( Final Destination 5) and centers around the city of Silverton, which is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of the most furious twisters they’ve ever seen. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run toward the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.  The film is being released by New Line Cinema and Village Roadshow Pictures. The score is being released on CD and digitally.

Into the Storm was an opportunity to do a completely conceptual score,” notes the composer. “The idea was that an approaching storm is represented by the premise of being stalked in the savanna by a lion or tiger — primal, but patient. African flutes whistle in the far distance over completely still strings holding like a lion stalking, waiting patiently to strike. Then without warning, the power of the storm is upon you before you are even aware. This was a really fun and rewarding concept for me to compose.”

The film is told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople. “The other side of the music emphasizes human emotion, including loneliness,” Tyler explains. “It features a melancholy tone that comes from realizing we all are fragile and at the mercy of powers outside of ourselves.”
