Assimilate embraces Mac, Win 7, offers V6. Scratch

Scratch V.6, focusing on broadcast and editorial workflows, features a new architecture, a new tracker and new graphics capabilities. Scratch also handles a variety of formats, including ProRes, RedCode RAW(.r3d, HDRx), Arri RAW, Phantom, SI-2K and  DSLR. There is multilayer timeline support, AAF and FCP XML import, Panasonic P2/MXF (AVC-Intra) and AVCHD support, enhanced audio sync support and support for Avid Artist Color, and Tangent Wave and CP 200 panels.

For those working in stereo 3D, there is autobalance for stereo grading (auto balances one eye to the other), bicubic controls for fixing stereo images, Panasonic stereo camera support and auto de-muxing of stereo streams.

Scratch has a new price of $17,995 and will ship in Q2.

Assimilate’s newest product is Scratch Lab, an integrated digital lab tool specifically designed for on-set and VFX dailies worfkflows, including versioning, color correction, conform and deliverables. According to Assimilate CEO Jeff Edson, while Scratch wasn’t targeted for use in dailies, that is exactly what many people use it for. Now with Scratch Lab, Assimilate have a product designed from the ground up to work with a variety of dailies workflows. “It was just never a core part of our business, and now it’s going to be,” he says.

It too handles a broad range of native camera and input formats. Scratch Lab offers realtime, resolution-independent playback at 5K, non-destructive versioning, primary color grading and accurate automatic/flexible conform. It features audio sync, non-destructive versioning, fast, accurate conform, color grading tools, integrated stereo/3D tools and simultaneous output to multiple deliverable formats. Its cost is $4,995, which includes the first year’s maintenance and support.
