NY RENEWS TAX CREDIT, ADDS POST INCENTIVE

The post production tax credit is an incentive for producers who shoot their films outside of New York State to edit in New York.

The New York tax incentive has been responsible for attracting many high-profile projects to the state, including Martin Scorsese's HBO series Boardwalk Empire. Brainstorm Digital in Brooklyn is handling the VFX.

"This new credit will give New York post production services a much needed competitive edge," explains Rich Friedlander, co-founder of Brainstorm Digital. "We increasingly saw visual effects post work going to Canada thanks to their their Digital Animation or Visual Effects tax credit (DAVE). This new program will allow work that was filmed in New York to stay through its entire production cycle. It's a major move that will attract and keep top talent here in state."

The Post NY Alliance, formed by 14 post production companies based in New York, was instrumental in introducing the post production credit to the legislation. Brainstorm Digital (www.brainstorm-digital.com) is a founding member.
