July 23 SANTA MONICA, CA - Original music and sound design house Elias Arts has promoted Christopher (Kimo) Kemp to the position of associate creative director. Kemp has been senior composer and in his new role will play an integral part in the creative management of incoming jobs.  
'CENTRO' OPENS NEW EDUCATIONAL FACILITY
July 22 TORRANCE, CA - The Center for Education in TV and Radio (www.centrotvandradio.com) has opened a new facility, here, allowing students to pursue careers in television and radio broadcasting as talent, production and technical engineers.  
FLORIDA STATE TAPS LUXOLOGY'S 'EPP' INITIATIVE
July 22 TALLAHASSEE, FL - Florida State University (www.fsu.edu)
has entered into a partnership with San Mateo, CA's Luxology LLC
(www.luxology.com), the developers of 3D software. The agreement will make Luxology's Modo 3D software available to all students enrolled in the College of Communication's Media Production Program, as well as to the staff of Seminole Productions, Florida State's in-house production facility.  
EDITORS' LOUNGE TO SHOWCASE AVID/DIGITAL VISION SOLUTIONS
July 21 BURBANK, CA – AlphaDogs will host the next gathering of The Editors’ Lounge (http://editorslounge.com) on Friday, July 25th at its Burbank facility. The event will include a one-hour demonstration by representatives from Digital Vision and Avid, who will highlight the compatibility of Digital Vision's range of grading solutions with Avid media and meta data.  
SCI FI'S 'SANCTUARY' RELYING ON VIRTUAL SETS
July 17 VANCOUVER - Anthem Visual Effects  (www.anthemfx.com) is currently working on 13 one-hour original HD episodes for the first season of Sanctuary, scheduled to air on the Sci Fi Channel in October. Based on the HD Web series, the new television series will be one of the first live-action programs to shoot almost entirely on virtual sets. The program will also acquire footage using the Red camera.

The studio upgraded to the Titan after realizing the restrictions of their own home-grown IT infrastructure back in 2005, when they were working on The Chronicles of Narnia DVD release.  
VFX-HEAVY 'PS3' SPOT RELIES ON GREENSCREEN SHOOT
SAN FRANCISCO - Kontent Films and Core Studios recently teamed up to create a VFX-driven two-minute music video that promotes Sony's Playstation 3. Kontent's Eric Escobar directed the project, which is based around a live action actor who is immersed in a virtual world that surrounds him with game content and video media.
